By using the Hyphen website, digital platform, journal, or bookshop, you agree to these Terms. They form a legal agreement between you and Bahuvachana Trust (operating as Hyphen), Bangalore, India. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

Who Can Use Hyphen
You must be at least 16 years old to use our services. By registering, you confirm that your details are accurate and that you will keep your account credentials secure. We may suspend accounts where information is found to be false or these Terms are violated.

Subscriptions & Payments
The Hyphen platform and journal are available across three access tiers:
Free
Selected articles, bookshop access, and community discussions.
Digital Subscriber
Full journal archive, fellowships, and member events. Billed monthly or annually.
Print + Digital
All digital benefits plus the printed journal delivered to your address.
- Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
- You may cancel anytime from account settings; access continues to the end of your billing period.
- We do not store your full card details — payments are handled by our third-party payment provider.
EU & UK users: You have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days of your initial purchase for a full refund, except where digital content delivery has begun with your explicit consent.

Bookshop & Returns
- A purchase contract is formed when you receive an order confirmation email.
- Physical books may be returned within 14 days of receipt in original condition. Contact us to initiate a return. Return shipping is the buyer's responsibility unless the item is defective or incorrectly sent.
- Digital downloads (eBooks, PDFs) are non-refundable once downloaded.

Your Content & Contributor Submissions
By submitting a literary work or translation to Hyphen, you:
- Confirm you are the original author or hold the necessary rights to the work.
- Grant Hyphen a non-exclusive licence to publish the accepted work in print and digital formats. You retain full copyright and moral rights.
- Agree that Hyphen may make editorial adjustments and will communicate material changes before publication.
Simultaneous submissions: Please tell us if a submitted work is under consideration elsewhere, and notify us promptly if it is accepted by another outlet.

Intellectual Property
All content published by Hyphen — including the journal, editorial texts, platform design, and branding — is protected by copyright owned by Bahuvachana Trust or licensed from the respective creators.
- You may read and print content for personal, non-commercial use only.
- You may not reproduce, republish, or distribute Hyphen's content without prior written permission.

Platform Conduct
When participating in discussions, book clubs, or forums, you agree not to post content that is unlawful, abusive, defamatory, or that infringes others' rights. You also agree not to scrape data, spam other users, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the platform. We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these expectations.

Fellowships & Events
- Fellowship and mentorship applications are subject to programme-specific eligibility criteria published with each call.
- Seminar registrations are non-refundable within 7 days of the event date.
- If Hyphen cancels or reschedules an event, registered participants will receive a full refund or credit.

Disclaimers & Liability
Our services are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, Hyphen's liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.
Consumer rights: Nothing here limits your statutory rights under applicable consumer protection law in your jurisdiction.

Privacy & Data
Our collection and use of your personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. We comply with the GDPR and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023.

Governing Law & Changes
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Bangalore, Karnataka.
We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you by email at least 30 days in advance. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
EU users may access the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform.
